Lauren and I tried out a new recipe from 101cookbooks.com last night and it was delicious. I thought that the Chile Pea Puffs (created by Monica Bhides) sounded like something new and delicious to try and it turns out I was right. It was a lot of work but I think it was well worth the effort. They were AMAZING. However, if you’re not into spicy food, you may want to omit the Serrano chilies entirely. The puffs were too hot for Lauren. It tortured her because she says they were delicious but way too hot for her. So yeah, if you’re sensitive to spicy foods than be sure to take it down a notch.

I also made a Green Bean Curry but it was pretty spicy as well. Lauren couldn’t eat it either. This is part of our relationship that’s interesting. My love for spicy foods and her hatred for them. Ah well, she’s getting better at eating thems.

Tonight Lauren and I are indulging in fettuccine alfredo w/ a red bean and spinach salad topped with basil. It’s delicious. I’d type more but I’m ready to start eating.

I love to cook and I often create new recipes on the fly. I tend to get bored with things fairly quickly so I am constantly mixing things up in my kitchen. My kitchen madness has born many amazing creations but there have also been a number of culinary catastrophies. Tonight was definitely a catastrphy. It will forever be known as The Great Fish Taco Fiasco of 2009. It was absolutely horrible.

Here’s what happened…

I usually prepare fish tacos with a mild white fish like cod (or tilapia) but there was a sale at the grocery for salmon. I figured that I could adapt some of my methods to accomodate for the said fish. Well, that’s what I thought. I was wrong. I will never again use Salmon for fish tacos. It tastes too much like the ocean. I mean, I did everything I could possibly think of to try and salvage this culinary abortion but it was no use. Nothing I did made any difference. It was terrible. I felt awful for wasting a fish’s life.

I ended up eating tacos w/ mushrooms and onions instead of fish. Oh well, everyone makes mistakes. I make them and then write about it so that others can laugh at them.

By the way, the salmon was sooooo terrible that my cats wouldn’t even eat it and those little buggers will eat anything that is fish.
