Weekend Recap (mum’s visit)

Well, it’s Monday morning and I’m sitting at my computer eating a bowl of tricks cereal and piecing together my weekend while I wait on my coffee to finish brewing. Tricks cereal just isn’t the same anymore. The cereal pieces used to be shaped like little fruits and now they are just colored balls. Although it still tastes the same (due to infallible flavor copyrights) it’s just not as fun to eat without the magical little fruit shapes. Anyway, on with the weekend.

FRIDAY
My 9AM class was canceled on Friday so I got to sleep in a little longer than usual. I still had to go to Latin at noon but at least I was well rested. I drank way too much coffee before class so my stomach was in knots and I felt miserable (I hate this feeling). After class I decided to take my computer apart so that I could switch my IDE and SATA hard drive positions because I’m a tech dork and the current configuration was bugging me. I’m expecting that last statement to go over the majority of your heads considering most people that read my blogs don’t build computers. Anyway, the disassembling process took me nearly two hours and I was relieved that it booted up without a single issue when I was done. Awesome!

After my computer debauchery I drove to Lauren’s apartment to pick her up. She had not been feeling well for the past couple of days and she suggested that we go to the Fickle Peach so that we weren’t just sitting at home in the apartment all night. It’s funny how being sick will make you want to get out of your house and do just about anything other than lay around. I’m sure anyone that’s been sick at least once in their life can relate to that.

We went to the peach and met up with friends. I got my head talked off by someone who couldn’t hold my interest for even a second. I’m not going to reveal their name because I’m not out to be an asshole. I broke myself from the annoying conversation with the quickness and got back to the people I came with so that’s all that matters. I didn’t want to be rude to the person but they were talking about the most trivial bullshit EVER. Despite my best efforts to be polite and listen I just couldn’t force myself to care… not even the slightest bit.

So that pretty much sums up my Friday night… Oh wait! I forgot to mention that my mom called to inform me that she would be in Muncie on Saturday and Sunday. For those of you that know about my mom you already know what this means… For those of you that don’t… I’ll explain in a future blog.

On with Saturday!

SATURDAY
I woke up around noon but I was still pretty tired. I tend to build up a sleep deficit throughout the weekdays and then binge sleep on the weekends. Lauren still wasn’t feeling all that great so we decided to go back to bed. I didn’t physically leave my bed until about 4PM. It was awesome. I mean, sometimes you just have to sleep all day because it feels good (and yes… it felt good).

My mom told me that she was going to be in town around 6PM but I called Ian as soon as I was awake and told him to come over. He lives in Indianapolis so we usually hang out whenever he happens to be in town; and this weekend he was in town. Besides, I don’t think my mom has ever been on time for anything I can remember, ever.

Ian and I made a trip out to Meijer to get groceries so that I could make us dinner. I’ve been cooking ever since we were in Middle School and it’s kind of a tradition for us to make food. Since I don’t get to see him all that often anymore I decided that we were going all out tonight. We even called up Tommy Peepers for backup in the kitchen. I needed at least six hands to accomplish the meal that I had envisioned. The night’s menu featured Mediterranean-Style clams and pan-seared diver scallops topped with smoked mozzarella cheese dusted with chipotle powder. I even made my first risotto! It was a sauteed onion risotto w/ basil and fresh tomatoes. Last but not least, we had a side of English-Style chips. I should have taken a picture of the finished product but we were too eager to eat. It tasted amazing and I’m pretty sure my apartment is going to smell like seafood for the next couple of days. heh.

Like clockwork, my mom called as soon as we were in the midst of eating to tell us that she’d arrived. It was 8:45PM so she was a good 2 hours and 45 minutes late. Oh well, I couldn’t really be mad at anyone after eating such a luxurious meal so I told her that we’d meet her down at the Fickle Peach thinking that it would be so easy. Nope. Ian and I had to go pick her up at the hotel and arrange for her to have a sober ride home. Dealing with my mom requires that I consume alcohol so I knew there was no way I would be sober enough to drive her back across town. Besides, that’s why I live downtown… So that I don’t have to RISK getting a DUI. Thankfully my brother opted to be the DD otherwise I would have ended up paying someone to do it.

Normally, hanging out with my mom is uber stressful but tonight wasn’t that bad. We just drank beer and played pool. The only drama that surfaced was between her and my brother. I stayed out of it. Anyway… two dozen juke box songs and 10+ games of pool later, we closed down the peach like it was our job. We’re talking a good hour past last call. heh.

Somehow, Alex and I got the idea that we should go back to my mom’s hotel and try to go swimming at 4:30AM. We were determined to do so and we did. It was our first time checking out the new Hampton and it’s pool facilities. They were quaint but nice. The pool was heated perfectly but they used too much chlorine for my taste. We swam laps like idiots even though we knew we’d probably regret it later. I didn’t get home until around 5ish and by that point I was exhausted.

SUNDAY
Sunday was dedicated to recovery. I did, in fact, end up regretting those late-night laps that I swam at 4:30AM. I don’t think I drank enough to be hungover but I still felt like ass due to a severe lack of sleep. Today was PJ day for me. Real clothing was not an option. I ran all of my errands looking like a bum. I went to my dad’s to do Laundry and that was probably the most productive thing I did. I took Lauren over to her sister’s so that she could hold her niece but then I ended up holding her most of the time. She’s a cute lil baby with chubby cheeks. Fun stuff.

After the baby holding Lauren was craving a burger so she forced me to go to Burger King. We never eat fast food so this is a very rare occasion. Lauren scarfed down her food and then had a stomach ache almost immediately afterward. I don’t know why she does it to herself. I think she enjoys the occasional reminder that fast food is terrible for her. lol. I tried a veggieburger from BK and it was barf. It tasted like salt covered in ketchup and mayo with a squishy old tomato on top. Yuck. Oh well, we managed to stomach the sub-par food while watching episodes of MacGyver on Netflix. Lauren learned how to play the theme song on my keyboard. It was awesome.
